THE OBJECTIVES

In the production of garments, the largest emission of greenhouse gases occurs at the Raw Material extraction and processing stage. The ability or inability to take meaningful corrective action to impact that stage would largely dictate the successful reduction of a product’s carbon footprint. The objective was to understand the potential impact of recycled material in several products in the CLOSELY product range.

THE CCC SOLUTIONS

The CCC Team used a Life Cycle Assessment approach to calculate the Product Carbon Footprint of several products to assess the impacts of replacing virgin material with suitable recycled alternatives.

CASE STUDY - Closely

CHALLENGES

Understand the impacts that material choices have on greenhouse gas emissions during the production process in order to source suitable alternative material options.

“The idea behind Closely is to deliver products with superior function and to minimise the impact this effort has on the planet. We wanted to find a way to measure our progress over time. Now we are the first fashion company in the world who calculates the exact carbon footprint for each and every product, and makes it visible in our online store. It’s a great tool for us. We want to set a new standard for sustainability in the category in the hope that other brands would follow.”
